Bioextrax brings to the market a biobased extraction platform technology that has sprung out of research carried out at the Department of Biotechnology at Lund University.
In brief, we have developed, tested and verified a collection of microbial strains that can hydrolyse a variety of protein rich side streams. It is a green, cheap and selective technology avoiding harsh treatments and the use of chemicals.
We are currently in the process of commercializing two key applications: the extraction of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA, a biobased and biodegradable plastic) from PHA-producing bacterial cells, and protein hydrolysate and fibres from poultry feathers.
Applications that have been tried successfully at laboratory scales includes extraction of bio-oils from microalgae and amino acids from yeast and other protein-rich waste streams.
